Meet the Tailored Tie

My first men's accessory is finally out.  Introducing the Tailored Tie!  I originally made this tie for my husband for our 'cotton' anniversary this year and decided I'd share the pattern with ya'll.  Now that it's perfected, it's available in my Pattern Shop.  There is only one variation with this pattern, but the opportunities are nearly endless with the fabrics you can use.

PROJECT FEATURES

I don't have a personal preference when it comes to ties (besides looks of course), but my husband told me some of his favorite features of the Tailored Tie.  He loves the fact that it's customizable, which saves us from having to purchase overpriced ties for special occasions.  He likes that it has a timeless shape so he can wear it for years to come.  He also appreciated how it's made with love (jk, he didn't actually say that, but I'm sure it was on the tip of his tongue).

The Tailored Tie measures at 59 1/2" in length, which is comparable with the average tie.  For someone with a wider neck, the tie can be easily lengthened at the Tie Middle.  Just make sure to add the same amount of length to the middle of the heavyweight interfacing.  I'll work on a video tutorial for this in the coming weeks for my visual learners out there.

PROJECT DIFFICULTY

This is a beginner friendly project for people of all experience levels.  About half of the project is hand sewing, so if you don't have much experience with a sewing machine, you're only using it for a few seams.  Below I've listed some important skills you will learn while sewing this project:

  1. How to sew straight lines with a sewing machine.
  2. The importance of ironing.
  3. How to sew an invisible slip stitch.

Next month I'll be starting a 4-week sew-along series so we can work through the pattern together and finish these handmade projects in time for Christmas.  Grab your pattern here and start looking it over before we begin our sew along next month.

Happy Sewing,
