Introducing the Ari Skirt

Introducing the Ari Skirt

The Ari Skirt is now in the Pattern Shop!  If I'm being candid, the Ari Skirt wasn't my initial plan.  I had a dress I was working on for Easter, but things got complicated and I had to just take a break from that expert level project.  When I get sewers block, I like to go back to the basics, and that's just what I did with the Ari Skirt.  Below I'm outlining the different project features, the project difficulty, my personal fabric recommendations and a FAQ.

Project Features

The Ari Skirt is the perfect addition to a feminine wardrobe.  The tiered skirt offers a loose fit and hits at mid-calf level.  The elastic waistband makes this feel extra comfy.  This skirt is perfect for everyday wear or special occasions.

Project Difficulty

This is truly a beginners project for those learning to sew their own clothing.  You'll learn about creating gathers, how to attach an elastic waistband, tips on stitching in the ditch and how to hem lightweight woven fabric.  If you're nervous about sewing your own clothing, this is a great project to start with.

Fabric Recommendations

Light to medium weight wovens such as linen, double gauze, chiffon, silk and rayon challis are great for the Ari Skirt.  Ensure the fabric isn’t too thick and has a fluid drape.
For the lining, choose a plain, neutral color that complements the color of the main fabric you’re using.  Ensure the lining is similar or lighter in weight than the main fabric.

FAQ

Can I make this using my home sewing machine?

You bet!  This pattern can be exclusively done on a home sewing machine.  In the instructions, I serge the bottom edge of the lining, but I also include other options on how to finish this if you don't have a serger.

What is included with this pattern?

When you purchase this pattern, you will receive a digital copy of the Ari Skirt pattern and the instructions.  The pattern instructions include written and illustrated directions that are easy to follow.  There are also video tutorials linked throughout for the more difficult portions.

What if I don’t know how to use digital sewing patterns?

Don’t you worry.  I have a detailed video explaining the process of downloading and printing digital sewing patterns. It’s way easier than you may think.

I’m still new to sewing, will this be too difficult for me?

There’s no time like the present to learn a new skill.  While this might take you a little longer than the estimated time, it’s definitely doable for those new to sewing. This project is perfect for a beginner seamstress wanting to learn to sew.  It will teach you valuable skills when it comes to creating your own clothing.  If you’ve never sewn before or still aren't confident in your sewing skills, I suggest you check out some of the patterns in the Free Content Shop.  These are much smaller projects and more manageable to begin with while you learn to use your sewing machine.

Happy Sewing,
